Keep in mind that I am always looking for images for our newsletter; fish, sunsets, sunrises, other anglers fishing, equipment, anything fishing related. I can use them all.  Large, unedited images are best. Thanks.

Went bass fishing Friday morning in the harbor. Caught a handful of bass from 18 to 21 inches. The 21 incher was husky and looked like a 6 pounder. Haven't caught  a lot of bass this spring, but every one was over 17 inches. Wondering where the small ones are.

After a while I went down to the river. A friend told me he does well casting shallow along Grand Island. I always avoided fishing for bass, pike, or anything else in the river until muskie season opens because I didn't want to hook into any muskies.

I was in about 5 foot of water and took a few casts. Caught a 16 incher. Good start. A few more casts and hooked another. This one felt bigger, maybe as big as the 21 incher I caught earlier, so I turned on the go pro.

After a minute or two I realized that this was a lot bigger than the 6 pounder. I was using 8lb test and a medium action smallmouth rod. Was casting a 2 inch diver. Didn't want to break the line so I played it slowly until I was able to snag the lure - a method I use anytime I don't want to net a fish. Worked well this time.

Posted the video - maybe it will help if you accidentally hook into a muskie while fishing for bass. Try not to net it  but use the net to snag the lure. Won't have to touch the fish.

I'll stay in the harbor from now until muskie season opens, even if I'm fishing for bass.
