Keep in mind that I am always looking for images for our newsletter; fish, sunsets, sunrises, other anglers fishing, equipment, anything fishing related. I can use them all.  Large, unedited images are best. Thanks.

Thank you, Jay!

Went out this AM directly to the river. No harbor detours. This would be strictly a river event.

And the river must have missed our early morning … um …. encounters. As she welcomed me with open enthusiastic affection.

A minute into the first drift just as the sun was getting ready to rise, a weight on my line. No bump, no hit, just a weight. Well, I set the hook. Knew immediately that it was a nice fish. Started cranking hard, thinking don't fall off, don't fall  off, don't fall off. As I grunted with each shake of the fish's head. Been here, done this before. All the big fish I've lost while tubing solo would be comical if not so sad. So I cranked and hoped. And grunted. It's not easy cranking a big fish in by brute force. No drag to give some ease. No rest between cranks. No pulling with the rod. Nothing which might give slack. Just keep the bend, keep the line tight, keep the pressure on, no slack, no slack, no slack.

And then you have to net her. After a dive next to the boat, she went in easy.

Well, I didn't lose this one. 48.5 inches. Prior to sunrise. Didn't tag her because I boarded her and didn't want any extra stress than she had already experienced.

Didn't hook anything else, but didn't care. I'm sure the river thought me satisfied. She's always been good to me.

I'll post a video shortly. Not the best. Camera was angled down towards the brim of my cap. But you'll see the fish, anyway.

The Iron Horse strikes huge!  Well done, Tony!  The solo netting of a big musky is one of the hardest things to accomplish angling.  Your nickname's namesake's famous quote applies to all walks of life including musky anglers, "the ballplayer who loses his head, who can't keep his cool, is worse than no ballplayer at all." Congratulations!

I've netted lots of big fish trolling alone, but trolling lures have lots of trebles which give you some leeway. it's the tubes' single hooks which make it really hard.

Was it the brim of your Indiana Jones hat?  One of the best hats I've ever seen

I think I still have that hat. I used them for night fishing. The headlamps held perfectly and securely around the hat and atop the brim. But that wasn't the hat. It was one of those hats with the cloth sides covering your ears and neck to protect from the sun. It has an extra long brim which doesn't make it ideal for the gopro.

Awesome report and fish. I admire your grind this week. Some beautiful fish around.
