Keep in mind that I am always looking for images for our newsletter; fish, sunsets, sunrises, other anglers fishing, equipment, anything fishing related. I can use them all.  Large, unedited images are best. Thanks.

hit the river with Tom before dark and headed into un13.  passed Larry on the way and saw he had people with him.  trolled back and forth with no action until after dark.  watched and wondered if Larry was having a problem with his boat because he was drifting in shallow, but then saw the flash go off and knew he was releasing a fish.  seemed like he just started to move and he was back to shining lights on the water and we could see another fish coming to his boat.  Tom swung the boat over the deepest part of the area and I let back a new lure in a color I had been saving until true darkness. Tom calls 28' and bam, fish on.  fish steadily to the boat, scoop, bigheaded 39.5''.  front hook only in corner of mouth so I grabbed the bill of the lure to try to keep the fish from getting the rear hook into his gill area. fish rolled and I'm holding onto the bill of the lure while the fish still has the rest with him. broke the nose right off.  hooked too good, certainly wasn't going to get off, knipex, snip, snip, touch near third twisted hookpoint with the knife, dip of the net, cya.  troll low in the zone for a bit, back up and see Larry busy with another fish.  up into un2, back into deep water now using my unbroken lure, 23', fish on.  fish to boat way too easily, slid into the net, Tom lifts, now the fish decides to spend some energy. front hook only again, easy unhook job after the fish calms, water measure 38'', dip net, fish swims back into the depths.  between the 4 shallow fish Larry already has and the 2 deep we caught, it is apparent that they are in a good mood tonight.  psyched for more when suddenly lightning strikes, thunder says less than 3 miles, another bolt, less than 2 miles, Larrys' boat coming upriver fast and the rain visible in both direction.  we know it's too late and take a wet ride home. back tonight for more...

Sounds like yesterday was hot action all day. Cullen did 3 fish in a couple hrs yesterday am including a 51. The niagara river 50s love that kid!
OH My God! Oh My God! Ears Covered!
Congrats Cullen!
He does that with every 50"er!

Cullen should write a book. I think it would be a best seller. At least with NMA members.

Will Carl ever cast again?

The answer to the "Carl" question should be in the sequel to the book.

Jim K., said the gobies in the River are way down.  Do you think this is a factor in the rise of action at night?

The biggest factor has to be people actually fishing at night. We avg a fish every 2.5 hrs at night in river for past 3 seasons. Just don't do it much, seems like when we launch at 330 there's almost always 1 landed by 5 am and sometimes 2. Sounds like Toms been hammering them at night for years, he just chose to share his success this year.
That is so right, if you do not fish at night, then you don't have a chance to catch them at night. Then there is the factor that some of the night spots would never have fish on them in the daylight hours. Also some of the old night time high productive spots have not been fished in years, so the fish may not even know what a crankbait is.How many fishermen go down the west river past the shipyards other then Tony, Tommy & I?
Honestly besides the 1 day I fished navy and Buckhorn last season I haven't been past the beaver marina this year or last season. The year before we fished from black creek up at night and right down to it during the day a couple times and used to pound un13 from shipyards up all the time. Seems the less I fish the niagara the lazier I get when it comes to experimenting and exploring. Kind of sad.
How many musky hot spots might there be toward Navy Island and around toward Grassy Island that have never been trolled at night?

I've fished a decent amount at night over fourteen season.  I've had decent years in the dark, really good years and years when I couldn't catch them if they had handles.  From speaking with Tommy over the years, he's had good, great and really lean years at night as well.  My theory was that if the gobies were everywhere, they provided the muskies with a very easy to catch food source.  If the gobies aren't as prevalent, maybe the muskies are working a little harder to eat and taking advantage of their superior eyesight by feeding at night.  John, if you are averaging a fish every 2.5 hours at night over the past three season (which I don't doubt at all), why would you every fish in the day?  I'm averaging 1 every 6 hours this year and I couldn't be happier.

Every year I promise myself I'll get down river in either direction more.  I haven't been past UN12 or UN6 this year.  I've only fished in front of Strawberry 4 or 5 drifts, but I have been hammering UN2 and 4.  I'll have skip UN2 and start in 13 and work my way down to Navy.  I love it down there.  When my little motor gets out of the hospital (Brobeil), I think (hope) I'll do just that.  Wonderful water down there.  It's hard for me not to get stuck in my UN2 and 4 rut.
