Nate..Thanks.  Yes, I did mean Blane's shanks & thanks for the info.  When I search for tandem setups, I see a lot of tiers use braided or plain ss wire.  Glad you explained it better.

I really like that "signature sleeving method."  It's one of the best tying techniques that I've ever seen/used.  Thx for clearing things up.

On the smaller flies I'll use E-Z Body Sleeving.  It's softer but on a smaller fly is easier for me, at least, to work with.

I assume by "Blane Chocklett's wire system"  you mean his shanks?  if so, yes, I use the shanks. They are way more durable than any other method of articulation.  I have had both wire and braid fail on me, the constant bending of the wire while casting will eventually cause it to break and you usually don't see it coming, it just happens unexpectedly.  What I do is use Blane's shanks (which are heavy but you don't notice it much when casting) but the key is how you connect the front hook to the first shank.  What I do is use a thinner gauge Fishskull shank and tie that shank on top of the front hook with the rear loop of the shank hanging off the back of the front hook.  this provides a bullet proof connection that will never fail.  Just wrap it down tight to the hook shank and use lots of super glue.  I'll put up a pic of this connection when I get a minute, it's hard to explain with just words.

Oh, and BTW, that "signature wire sleeving" is actually one of Blane's products as well, I learned that from him.

Nate...I have a fly-tying question for you:

When you tie your tandem hooks, are you using steel braid or do you use Blane Chocklett's wire system?  I've tied some flies using the Chocklett wires but they seem heavy & clunky.  Any thoughts?

Nate...thanks.  Nice fly.  I can see your signature wire sleeving on it, too.  I use that technique now after watching you tie one up at OOFS.  Makes a great big, light fly.  very nice!!

John M. - Thanks! it's my second tiger in 3 years.  The weird thing is, they were both 43"!

John J. - Here is a pic of the fly.  It's been chewed on by a few fish so it's a bit beat up - missing some hair and the hackles have faded from chartreuse to more of a yellow.
