McKee vs. Keane: The Battle of the Sexes

Tomorrow from 10AM to 2PM in the Ontario portion of the upper Niagara River, Bruce and Carrie will take a page out of Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs' book as they reinvent the classic 70's gender battle ala musky-style.

The tournament, which will air on ESPN 12, will be divided into halves. A coin toss will determine who gets to select techniques and locations for each half of the tournament. Rumors have Bruce forcing Carrie to cast Plows at some point in the event. These rumors can be downplayed since Bruce will certainly want to troll and eat boat snacks.

The winner will be determined by total inches released. As the impartial judge, I will eye-ball all fish in the water deemed to be smaller than potential Top Ten fish.

On the odd chance there is a winner, that person will win the others first opportunity to select an item from our Christmas party raffle table with each of the competitors purchasing a minimum of $20 worth of tickets.

Vegas has Bruce as a slight favorite based on the fact that he hasn't caught a big musky in a loooong time and even blind squirrels luck into nuts once in a while. Troll by troll updates will-be posted on our site (not really) for those of you who don't have ESPN12.

Bruce has a defense against cookies, John. All of his pockets will be loaded with them, candy bars, beef jerky, chips, etc. He brings steam trays on the boat for God's sake.

Well then, it looks like she'll have to share them with the impartial judge. No use letting them go to waste.

I remember watching King vs Riggs on TV. I just read an account of that match that described Billie Jean as "eviscerating" him 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 in front of more than 30,000 fans at the Houston Astrodome.

My money's on Carrie.

I tell you one thing, John. They are both going to look ridiculous in tennis outfits on the river in December.

The Musky Battle of the Sexes will have to wait until 2017 to crown a champion. Amazingly enough (not really) neither Carrie or Bruce landed a musky today in their four- hour tournament chiefly because I was driving the boat which they reminded me often. I blame them for listening to my advice and not being innovative. Either way, we had a fun time despite Bruce and Carrie ganging up on me by playing their accursed country music for a stretch.
