Keep in mind that I am always looking for images for our newsletter; fish, sunsets, sunrises, other anglers fishing, equipment, anything fishing related. I can use them all.  Large, unedited images are best. Thanks.

Is anyone fishing in the Harbor for the Wittek?

I talked with Chris D of the DEC today & there are only two telemetry transmitters left of the 20 we originally received, per the grant. From the data, it seems some muskies have scooted away after being tagged. Chris asked if anyone usually fishes the Harbor during this contest. If there are enough people they are open to be out there to implant transmitters. Catch one, call them, they'll come over & do the surgery. This way the muskies will have already been implanted for the spring.

Who's "IN" for the Wittek in the Harbor?

No decision has been made but if there are enough people interested they could certainly make it happen. Post your interest here. Thx

too early to tell JJ. Weather will have a say in where team Miller Brothers decides to launch.

John, Ii wouldn't expect more than a boat or two in the harbor. And wouldn't expect more than that being caught in the harbor, if any.

It would actually make more sense to have a "Wittek Harbor Day", where we can schedule a day to have 5 or more boats fishing the harbor with the DEC equipped and ready for tagging. The issue, however, will always be the weather.

Thanks, Tony. That's a good idea. I'll talk with the DEC gents today & see what they can schedule. Their plan is to still remove the receivers on the last day, or thereabouts, of musky season

BTW, Chris Driscoll is "ON" for an update for our Feb meeting and will discuss their conclusions of the data so far.

I love that suggestion Tony! If it's not too late maybe the club can consider making this year's Tim Wittek Memorial Tournament a "harbor only" event. Seems like a cohesive effort put towards musky conservation in the harbor would be a great way to honor Tim, an angler known for his accomplishments in Buffalo's Harbor fishery
Goodday brothers
I like the idea for a harbor day.
Let’s see what DEC can do
I see lots of chocolate milk in our future

Considering there are only two transmitters left to implant, their job could be over with quickly (or not). Unfortunately, we only have enough $$ left for the two that are left, bringing our total up to 20. It would be nice to get another grant to study them more. I know the DEC has a lot of interest in the data. It's showing things that no one ever knew.

A Harbor tourney certainly sounds interesting, too, regardless if it's tied to tagging

I lost my favorite firetiger plow yesterday to a snag directly in front of Carghills. Receiver? if they find my plow attached when they pull it then please let me know.

John...will do. I know they have an assortment of odd & end lures that have been pulled up from some of the sampling they do there. When Jim K recovered the lost one at the Cargill there was an ice fishing jig & a walleye spinner & worm rig (without the worm). The plan is to still remove them on the last day of the season.

thanks for looking out JJ. I caught my 51 incher in the harbor on that bait a few years ago with Dave Martin. I got the bait from my big brother.
That is a powerful mojo, John. I really hope it's stuck to one of our receivers.
