They say the best day to plant an oak tree was twenty five years ago and the second best day is today. So I just planted 75 red oaks on my hunting ground. It feels good to put something back in the ground.
That's great to hear! That will do a lot for the watershed. Are you planting any white oak trees? I remember reading years ago that deer prefer white oak over reds.
The DEC was all out of whites by the time I made my order so we went with reds. The deer do indeed prefer the sweeter whites but will readily eat the reds if that is all there is. Hopefully get a bunch of whites next year.
Let's hope. I rarely see a lot of white acorns in the woods. Maybe you will find a stand of them & go thru the planting process.
