Keep in mind that I am always looking for images for our newsletter; fish, sunsets, sunrises, other anglers fishing, equipment, anything fishing related. I can use them all.  Large, unedited images are best. Thanks.

Thank you, Jay!

A friend of mine who does not report with the club caught a tagged fish today.  Wasn't sure where he was supposed to report it but passed the info on to me.

Josh...was it a walleye? Did he keep it? I know the DEC is tagging walleyes with a yellow/orange tag. He should call it in to the DEC. The Dunkirk office is running that program.

Our S/N's run from 001 to 250 and are the green color. We purposely picked green so as not to be confused with the 'eye program. Now here's the bad news (good for the fish though), the DEC tagged these because those 'eyes have a transmitter in them and there is a $100 reward  for returning the acoustic tag to the DEC that is inside. If he kept the walleye, there will be an implanted acoustic transmitter inside. The important thing is to NOT freeze the fish with the transmitter inside

It's also possible it's a muskie tagged by Kevin Kapuscinski several years ago. For some reason I think Kevin might have used yellow tags. Maybe in 2009? (explaining the 09 prefix). Sort of guessing til I get home and can verify. I've been out of town.

I emailed Kevin, here's his response:

"Hi Tony,

Very cool!  We tagged this fish on 28 May 2009 after capturing it by electrofishing downstream of Spicer Creek.  It was 662 mm (26 in) when tagged, and the sex was unknown.  So it grew about 14" in 8 years based on the reported length.
Would it be possible to get more info from the angler?  Like the date of recapture, the angler's name, and perhaps a more specific location?
Regards,
Kevin"

Josh,

Can we get the info Kevin is asking for from your friend? See his response above.

Tony

From Carrie, "it's reassuring the tag was still in."

Any idea on the number many muskies he tagged back then?

The DEC told me they electro-fished a 22 incher off Spicer this year.

Might be a good spawning/nursery area. I recall that it was once popular for northern pike.

I'll ask.

Hey John,

I may get the tiger muskies and regular ones confused but not a walleye and a muskie.  LOL.

Angler: Gabe Edwards

Also, the tag was in but required him to scrape a lot of algae off of it.

Cool stuff. Made itbover 6 miles and grew up. Eventually none of them can resist strawberry strawberryy.
