Keep in mind that I am always looking for images for our newsletter; fish, sunsets, sunrises, other anglers fishing, equipment, anything fishing related. I can use them all.  Large, unedited images are best. Thanks.

Thank you, Jay!

I went out musky fishing on the upper river this morning for the first time since the opener.  Riding shotgun for me was my trusty fishing partner musky watchman Louis Long.

It was a sunny, warm summer day with light to calm winds. A perfect day for fair weather fishermen such as me. We did the usual drifts including Frenchman, The Triangle, Strawberry, and International Bridge. I had one on briefly in The Triangle, and Louis had a big follow in front of Strawberry, I also saw another boat hook and lose one in front of Strawberry. So we knew that the muskies were catchable notwithstanding the fairness of the day.

Eventually we made our way along the Tonawnada Channel. As we drifted along Louis, just like opening day, saw a few muskies sitting along the bottom of the river. Just like opening day we decided to take another drift along the area that Louis saw the muskies. Just like opening day I hooked into one of those muskies. And just like opening day, it was 42 inches long.

I have to thank Louis for my early success this musky season. I've never known anyone who can see muskies like Louis, and which actually are muskies which we actually catch. I know I can't see squat in the depths of the Niagara (but I'm a lot like Scott Mckee and generally don't see squat). That is why I now call Louis the "Musky Watchman". In fact in one spot I had just seen three big fish marks on my sonar when Louis, without knowing what I was looking at on my sonar, immediately announced that he saw three big muskies laying on the bottom. The difference between Louis and the sonar is that when I see these things on the sonar I don't actually know that they're muskies - they could be carp or walleye or big bass. With Louis I know they're muskies and that we can catch them. Amazing skill.

By the way the moss was a minor annoyance in the west river but no problem at all in the east.

My muskie was caught on a green tube.

Thank you Louis!

Louis should think about changing his name to Lowrance.
And by the way, Tony, once I get my eye surgeries out of the way I will be able to see squat. How much I'll be able to see beyond squat remains to be seen. (Pun intended.)

I've read a bit on the phenomenon of the brain remodeling itself. Here's a link:

Note the second line: "the deaf can have a type of enhanced vision."

Congratulations to Louis (aka musky watchman) for using his enhanced vision & kudos to Tony for recognizing it.

That is one neat report! Thanks gents!!

20 / 20 - 2 with no glasses. Boom!

Maybe you can be a musky watchman, too!

My new pair of Costas might help with that.
