Fishing Report - 10/31

Bruce and I trolled and cast a little (very little) this afternoon after a brilliant lunch at Brunner's Tavern in Snyder. If you've never hit Brunner's for lunch, make sure you check it out.  Everything is outstanding, but I would highly suggest their soups, burgers and pea meal bacon sandwiches.  Back to the fishing story.

Boy was I wrong about the water clarity.  Yes the channel to the Tonawanda shoreline was mud, but the rest of the River was gorgeous.  In the Triangle we had about 12 to 14 feet of visibility. There was some floating wood and branches.

After hitting UN2 and 13, Bruce, who isn't too big on musky fishing anymore, wanted to call it, so I dropped him back at the launch after a few hours.

Around 5:00 I lost a nice fish casting my beloved Storm Flatstick in sucker in UN3.  I saw the fish's belly and while it didn't remind me of my own, it was really chunky.

After a few more casting drifts I trolled upstream in UN3.  I ran into Cullen and John.  They had a day-and-a-half.  They boated six including John's fat 43.5".  Congratulations boys!

I moved over to Triangle and trolled for awhile and then I gave in front of Strawberry to Harry's a shot.  Are you sitting down?  I was sick of trolling so I decided to take a jigging drift with a black and gold Bondy.  Desperate times call for Bondy Baits in my book.  I know they work for everyone else, but I just don't have any confidence in them.  Until 7:30 that is.  I caught a thick 40" in 20 feet of water in UN3.  The strike was awesome.  I can see why the Lacko's love these things. Boring, boring, boring, boring, BAAAMMMM!  Really cool stuff.

The fish hit just as the mist turned into rain and the wind picked up.

I'm going to have to give these globs of goo a run in November.

The obese 43.5 was cullens fish, she slammed a OBP toothy as he snapped it in13 fow, he also got a 36 earlier the same way. Got 2 38s, 39 and a gut hooked 34 jigging. Lots of action until about 3pm. Great job on the bondy fish! They only work for me at night too.. lol

I JUST GOT BACK FROM A FOUR DAY TRIP TO HULL, MASS. THAT WAS EXENTDED TO A SEVEN DAY TRIP DUE TO HURRICANE SANDY. EVEN THOUGH WE WERE ON THE EDGE OF THE STORM, THE SEAS WERE ROCKIN' AND ROLLIN'. HUGE SURF, SUPER HIGH GUSTS. COULD HAVE JIGGED, BUT ONLY IN A USCG CUTTER AND WITH A TEN POUND MONSTER TUBE. I GUESS I WILL TRY ANOTHER SEASON'S CLOSE OUT IN THE HARBOR.  SEE YOU ON THE WATER.

It is nice to hear the water clarity is ok.  I thought it might be because of Sandy's wind direction.  What is the water temp. now?

Scott:  You got me really excited there for a minute.  I saw your comment on the main page saying "53 point something in the River last night."  I thought you were referring to a fish getting caught that was 53 point something and had to click over to get more detail...then I see it was water temp that you referring to.  haha!

HA HA HA!!!!  Now that I looked back at it, I can see how that could be seen that way.

Water clarity didn't last long, maybe 2 ft and more grey then green when I left today at 1. West wind in full effect. Managed to catch a 36 or so in a last ditch effort casting a firetiger Draider right at strawberry on the way out.
