New York State DEC Summer Camps

NMA Members,I've received an email regarding the DEC Summer Camps. If you know any youth who is interested in being sent to one of these camps by the NMA, please let me know. They do not need to be an NMA member, just needs to be between the ages of 11 and 17. Registration starts January 24, 2018, so it would be best if any interested party be funded by the NMA by that date. The camps fill up quickly. The email is as follows:"Dear Valued DEC Summer Camps Sponsor, I am contacting you with…See More

"Would you want to know when you would catch your next or first musky over 50"? The chase would cease. No anticipation. No exaltation. What if the answer was never? Would you want to know that? Would you stop fishing for muskies?"

"About Ken Szymamski's 48" fish in the Top Ten. I doubt he will catch it on 12-21 17. But if someone can predict when I will catch one over 50" please let me know. My luck is, if I knew ahead of time, it wouldn't happen LOL!"

I've barely fished the river but between cullen and myself we have 15-20 fish to add to those totals including a couple ddinks. I've also pulled baits away from small fish already this season. Lots of mid 30s fish around right now, the ones that were Mia last summer.

Tony...thanks much for the info update and I completely agree with you on the sub-30's fish.  It is concerning & I, personally, like to see small fish caught (& properly released) for any species.  At least then, we know the fishery is healthy.  Has the fishery in the past been cyclic with up's & down's as with other species (take perch five years ago vs. now) or has there been a steady decline?  I know the sampling done by the DEC has shown a steady decline in YOY...

thanks much.

Tony...it looks like there are a lot of muskies in the 30" range caught (or lost) so far this month.  How does that compare statistically to this time last year?  Is it typical?  Does it indicate a healthier fishery than last year? Is it too early to tell?

August Meeting

Posted on August 4, 2015 at 9:30am 0 Comments

NMA members,

We learned yesterday that our August speaker had to cancel due to a family health
issue.

In lieu of the scheduled speaker, we will be reviewing this year's catch data to-date - see what's working, what may be different from years past, and how the season's progressing so far. This info should assist you in your Niagara River fishing pursuits for the next couple months.

Tony
