Fishing Report 11/4

When Mike Fortunate sent me the obligatory "ok" text at 6AM in response to meeting instructions I had radioed the night before, I text him the first thing that popped into my head, "have a big bowl of Cuddlesnugglebunnies cereal: Now with more lint!"  What are Cuddlesnugglebunnies?  An imagined breakfast treat, that, because of your bodies inability to digest, keeps you warm and fuzzy all day.  (It was really early and I am really goofy.)  Based on how cold my bedroom was at 6AM, I figured we'd need some Cuddlesungglebunnies on the mighty Niagara River today.

I donned my float suit and was comfy, albeit too hot when we cast, all day.  Carrie is a tough SOB and got away with insulated bibs and a few fleece jackets.  Mike, who sweats in the shower, rocked Crocs, a grass skirt and a T-shirt (I think it was Hello Kitty).

We started out reasonably well with two dinks right off the bat; one for Mike (his first of the year), and one for Carrie.  Mike's fish hit an orange belly Perchbait in UN3 and Carrie's pounded her old faithful servant, her beloved Carpe Diem Believer just seconds after dropping it in UN2.

This constituted all of our action for the day.  It hit the skids when the wind picked up and switched dead east.  After dropping Carrie off at the dock (work), Mike and I tried casting in a few hyper-productive spots and couldn't raise a fish.  Oh, well.  We had a great time.

Here's a tip if your hands are really susceptible to the cold.  My new Simms fingerless gloves have a pocket on the underside of the wrist for hand warmers.  The theory being the underside is where all our main cables deliver most of the red red kroovy to our hands.  My hands suck in the cold, and these fingerless gloves are wonderful.  Wonderful, but really expensive.  Try taping hand warmers to your wrists or inserting them into altered wristbands.  Here's another trick: Wear food preparations gloves in the cold to keep your hands dry.  Wet hands equals cold hands this time of year.  A box of a few hundred gloves is only $5 or so.

John, (amping up my sarcasm machine) you don't shower with your fishing buddies?  Mike F also has a lovely singing voice, is a great dancer (disco mostly), and likes romantic comedies staring Rob Zombie!

Scott...I can't say that I shower with them, but I do get eight days out of my underwear with them....inside, outside, front to back, then you switch with your fishing buddy.  When you do that, you don't need to shower.  And hopefully maybe we can ask Mike "the Facilities" to sing at one of the meetings.

I almost got us a new harbor launch ramp at First River Marina under the Skyway bridge on the General Mills Slip.First person I talked to let me launch,when I returned to the launch after fishing I met up with one mad owner.No-Never-Not in November-Were Closed! Website said $10 to launch I told him! That will be changed,we close Oct 15th,no liability insurance after that date.
