Keep in mind that I am always looking for images for our newsletter; fish, sunsets, sunrises, other anglers fishing, equipment, anything fishing related. I can use them all.  Large, unedited images are best. Thanks.

Wow!  I love his hat! (And the fish ain't so bad either.)

Johnny consistently catches those Georgian Bay giants year after year.

Throw in the fact that he fishes low density musky water..... wow!

Johnny Dadson is the man!

Replace "Johnny" with "Dave", "Georgian Bay" with "Buffalo Harbor" or "Lower River" and finally "Johnny Dadson" with "Dave Martin" and the post is just as true.

The truth is Johnny does catch Big Muskies,usually1 per season, sometimes 2,so Georgian Bay is no better then the Buffalo Harbor or Lower Niagara River for sure.Time on the water where they sometimes swim,Dave definatley puts in the hours!

Johnny boats a lot more than 1 big fish per season.

Josh,Depends on who you talk too! Nobody that fishes Geogian Bay gets any numbers of Big Fish,Big Fish from one season, Geogian Bay Big Fish are 55" Up!

There are other fishermen on Georgian Bay who catch a dozen or more 50" muskies a season,in comparrison that is like catching a dozen 45 " muskies here.

I guess it all depends on our definition of big fish. An honest 30# is a big fish (see Jay N's avatar).  35# is even more impressive. But let's set the bar high... let's say  40# is unmistakeably a big fish.  So if we went by honest 40# + fish the numbers for JD are a lot higher than you might guess.

Also, JD doesn't exclusively fish Georgian Bay. Brett, do you know for sure that was a Bay fish?

Like a lot of the Tooth crew, he has a certified Chitilian scale that he can weigh the fish while still in a net or cradle (and subtract the weight) if he chooses to.   But - if like you mentioned  - inches is a better gauge of a big fish - then in the past 2 seasons I can recall JD boating at least 6 over 54".... I don't believe that is a fair assessment though, because I don't pay attention to his board enough. Also, it isn't fair because that would exclude all the other giant 53" and 52" fish. I mean, if 54+" is the bar set for big fish, then a whole bunch of super fish wouldn't count.  Look at the fish above. If it is 53.5" should it not be considered a big fish?  I think weight is a more accurate definition as it is universal to all waterways despite their top end length.

Anyways, I am not trying to be argumentative. Johnny isn't on this thread, so in fairness to him, it is what it is... that's all =)

I'll happily take any fish, anytime. =)

By no way am I trying to take away from Johnny's catch,he catches bigger fish then me for sure.I'm trying to put into perspective the trophy potential of Georgian Bay vs our Harbor & River. There are 55" muskies caught & released on Georgian Bay every year, most are happy not to post pictures or say where. Most of the heavy hitters I talk to and get confidential pictures from considered 55" and up as trophies from those waters.
Dave I am getting worried about you. Do you now have a man crush on Johnny Dadson instead of Doug Stange?
"Don't get me wrong, 50" is a nice fish. It's just not what I'm looking for. I've gotten to he point now where I just look down and wonder where the other 5 inches are, then pop the hooks and let them go".

While not word for word this is a quote from Dadson's seminar at road rules last march that will never leave me. To spend that much time only pursuing the biggest fish is super human. I try my best to use big baits, fish where the monsters would be using big fish tactics day after day and doing so without getting frustrated and heading to a weedbed hoping for a 30 incher is near impossible. Guy is gangster.

In that same thought its pretty similar to what Larry does every year by fishing slow and deep in chautauquas north basin while people pound little guys down south and then again here in the harbor while most of us are trying to jig up big numbers.

Kudos to anybody with the will power to stay after the big girls year round and not just the fall trophy hunt.

No Jay ..... Still have the man crush on Doug Stange but it was a photo finish with Dadson. hahahahaha

I know Johnny Dadson and consider him a friend, you'd have to ask him if his perspective is the same with me lol.

We both share a common bond of being North American Indians (I'm a Mohawk and Johnny is Metis) and can joke about it between the two of us, but Johnny didn't revolutionize musky fishing as Stange in his own words has by turning a swimbait on it's side and then inserting the hook, instead of in-line with the belly of the bait as everyone else does.

In-Fisherman can't lie so it must be true.
