If you missed our meeting tonight you missed some very interesting mini-presentations from several of our members.

I am a bit embarrassed by the fact that one of our presenters has better release equipment than I do. John Pensyl showed us his release tools and gave us a few release tips as well. John has shrink tubed these fancy pig-tail lines to his release tools, along with a carabineer to connect to his net while he is releasing fish. I think this is a fabulous idea. He also has three pairs of offset needle nosed pliers that I am going to purchase immediately. Couple these tools with an extremely long set of Baker hook-outs and John may have the best release tools in the club. John, would you mind posting a picture of your tools so other members can get a loot at them and hopefully emulate your system?

Joe Dolan shared with us with a nifty system to keep weeds off of your trolled lures invented by St. Larry guide Bill Barber. Joe, how about a pic?

I talked a bit about my new trolling combo that I am really excited about. The rod is a heavy action, graphite fiberglass composite catfish rod made by Whisker Seeker ($95). It has faux cork grips that are very durable. The rod tip is very sensitive for a composite blank and offers plenty of backbone. The company that makes them backs up their product unconditionally for the first year. You break it in a cardoor, they replace it no questions asked. I purchased the rod for trolling big spinners on Lake Nipissing around heavy cabbage. The rod has plenty of power but still is fairly light for a trolling rod. If you like to pull big baits in the river, take a look at the 9'6" Whisker Seeker. I put a Daiwa Lexa 400lc on the Whisker Seeker and I couldn't be happier with this low profile line counter that brings in 32 inches per turn with 25 pounds of drag and is as smooth as my casting reels. The reel weighs in at only 15 ounces which is nice if you like to hold your rod while trolling.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention the new lure Jimmy Reynolds unveiled tonight. I won't let the cat out of the bag, but look for this shallow diving crank that wanders around like a four year old hopped up on sugar, once Jimmy fine tunes this winner.

Cullen Vieders showed us his Shmo Candy spinnerbaits that have been catching huge fish and are built like tanks. After breaking a spinnerbait setting the hook on a huge fish this summer, you can bet I am going to be armed to the teeth with Shmo Candies next season up North.

If you are on the river and need to replace a lost Perchbait or if you just have a few extra bucks burning a hole in your pocket, pull your boat into Mid-River Marina which now boasts a whole bunch of Perchbaits and Plows for sale.
