Keep in mind that I am always looking for images for our newsletter; fish, sunsets, sunrises, other anglers fishing, equipment, anything fishing related. I can use them all. Large, unedited images are best. Thanks.

Jojo...yeah, they're out on the river. They're Nuts with a capital "N." The pic was taken about 2:30 Tues P.M. from the small field that is just to the right of the Blue Water Marina launch ramp looking toward the Huntley (Ferry Rd?). I was on my way to check out the kayak launch ramp & saw them out there. I think the guy on the left was delirious from the cold, otherwise he would've been in a shelter. By the way, I never bothered to walk out there to check the thickness.
Thank you for not checking, John! I like you breathing!
The ice can build a good thickness there (at least it used to) I'm not sure how the ice builds now? Years ago I went out there quite a bit, I used to go with the guys from the NRAA. It can be really, really good for jumbo perch. We also iced Northerns and the occasional Carp from that area.
Mike...WOW!! I used to ice fish a lot myself (Pinehurst, Sturgeon Pt) & usually felt goosey about going into the wild cold yonder but I always thought that with the moving water, that ice fishing on the river would be dicey. The only time I ever ice fished on top of moving water was years ago when the Catt froze near the Irving boat launch & here we are, talking with an ex-Niagara ice fisherman. You're like an urban legend. Thanks for the info & will have to try for perch there after the thaw.
great year for ice. pulled 25 perch from a school in the harbor on Monday in a spot I haven't been able to safely access in years
Carl..25 perch is a beautiful catch any day of the week. Way to go!! Do you think it might have something to do with the coke ovens shutting down? I remember seeing some people out near the South Gap one year, & I don't remember if it was last year or the year before, but when the coke ovens were putting out warm water, it was suicide to even think about going there.
lot of current when going out past the dropoff outside of cargil
