Images

Keep in mind that I am always looking for images for our newsletter; fish, sunsets, sunrises, other anglers fishing, equipment, anything fishing related. I can use them all.  Large, unedited images are best. Thanks.

Thank you, Jay!

When an endeavor gets really difficult, there is often an urge to quit.  Catching muskies has proven to be difficult for me over the past several years. I haven't caught a big fish locally in a very long time.

During a phone conversation I had John Jarosz this morning, he mentioned I might have the cleanest lures in the club.  The truth is my lures are very clean.  Several of of them bare the scars of ancient musky bites, but for the most part none of them have seen any real action lately.

Then it hit me... Maybe I should stop trying to catch muskies and instead present my lures dangerously close to the buggers and hope they don't hit them.  So that's my plan for the remainder of the season.  I will troll lures at night in areas I know are holding muskies and bait, and hope they don't smack my lures.  I think I'll be very good at this new game.  After all, nothing wrecks a nice troll like catching a musky.

A successful trip will no longer be gauged by how many fish I caught, but by how many times or how long I was able to taunt muskies into not striking my lures.  A successful season will mean few of my lures seeing new scratches or bite marks from teeth.  Instead of hoisting a giant fish for a picture, I'll be able to show before the season and after the season images of my favorite baits that might be the same picture to prove how successful a non angler I am.

I am now officially a musky non-angler.  Don't hate the game, change it.

I've learned that if I set my expectations low, I'll rarely be disappointed.

So far, I'm not disappointed at all. It's been a good year

Scott, your plan is brilliant! I think that's how I'm going to start looking at it too. Thanks for your valuable insight!

Wonder if we could have caps that say "non-ten", or "DNC" (did not catch)????? I would have a lot of those.

What could we use for a non-release prize drawing?????

How about a year end prize for top hours or trips or years without a musky. Or most/worst trash/junk catch of the year.

Frank, you are a funny man. Non-ten hats and non-release drawing are inspired.
