Lower River Report 12/11/15

Fished the lower river last three days with  Toothy, he brought a few prototypes of some new crank designs he has come up with, having a blast pulling them.

Also his stand-up comedy routine is a laugh a minute.

One musky, a couple bruiser lakers and the mother of all smallmouth's on his new creations.

Today we took a pummeling with the big wind/waves.

Worst beating I've witnessed since the Bayonne Bomber/Bleeder Chuck Wepner fought Ali :) HaHa.

Lower blown out for a couple days I'd think.

I too was out on the lower the last 2 days, saw Dave and Jim. No muskies to show for (just one good smash on a plow) but did manage a trophy hog Brown Trout at approx. 23 lbs. (33" x 23") Fought like no end and when I got it to the boat, boy was I disappointed it wasnt a huge musky. Not too shabby a Brown though, biggest Ive ever seen or caught. Nice lively release. I seem to catch all my personal bests on giant musky baits. Last year it was a huge Walleye, 3 yrs ago it was a trophy laker, now if only I could get a giant Musky too match.....

Bob...you're running out of species for PB's.  The musky's gotta be the next one up!

If you were actually fishing for trout that brown would have been a catch of a lifetime. Funny how it can be a disappointment when musky fishing.

Really enjoy watching Bob working the water in his boat... always solo...tiller...one rod...hairpin turns working structure.

Old school.... nice to see.

Always expect to see him row trolling next on the lower :)

That's a giant brown. I'd take that over any musky I've caught this season.

Yeah I did. Solo or not I almost always get pics, everything I get goes back so thats all I fish for is pics and memories.

Dave- ha ha-  old school for sure, been at it too long. I still have the 1 rod or 2 rod dilemma when out solo though. Do I take the chance at a tangle with a big fish on the line with 2 rods out but increase my odds for a hookup ? Or fish 1 rod tight to structure with the ability to work it right and not have to worry about a tangle with a big one on or a snag on the one Im not actively working? I usually opt for the one rod option since I have my hands full as it is with the motor, net, pic, etc. One less thing to have to worry about. The current makes it tough on boat control also. Im more apt to go with 2 rods in a lake than the Niagara when solo. I know I must be in the minority with this but it is what it is.

I think Websters Dictionary was thinking of the Lower Niagara when they made the term " low density musky water". Just not an easy place to get em... then again they're not easy anywhere really.
