Fishing Report 6.28.17

Bronchitis. Bronchitis has been kicking my @ss for the last three weeks. So much so that today was my first day fishing since November 30th of 2016.

Ouch.

After fueling up at Mid-River and then adjusting ropes, installing batteries and organizing my floating mess back at my marina, I noticed my bilge was running continuously. My bilge isn't the old school floating kind. It has a sensor that supposedly knows when it's under water and then turns on the pump. It worked great last year, but now I wish I had stuck with the float kind. After disconnecting the high tech battery drainer I headed out to fish.

I spent most of my time tuning new lures and chucking and pulling a few old favorites. The Assault Sticks Shock N Awe rod which Carrie won and subsequently gave to me is awesome. At 9'6" I could cast from the Black Rock Lock all the way to Frenchman's Creek. What a rod. John Pensyl hipped me to these rods last year. Even though I didn't catch any fish today I was very impressed with this rod... Reasonably light, much more sensitive than I minutes to, good looking, quick tip, but enough of a bend to make it a great after the catch keep 'em buttoned bad boy.

The moss was negligible when I was out. Trolling I could get at least 20 minutes of clean lures.

I was only out for a few hours and I didn't see squat, but it sure was nice to finally be fishing again.

Was tough pm out there tonight. Me and Joe Dolan jigged from 4ish until dark with zippo and then trolled until midnight with just a big walleye and a weed catcher eating smallmouth to show for it. Last time Joe and I fished toget her we also landed 1 walleye and 1 bass, some day we are going to find ourselves a musky! Of couse Cullen popped out in his boat for a couple hours and popped another 46 on a mag dawg just to show us all they are still around. Lol. By the way if anybody dredges up an old school brown hooped beckman from way up high on the humpty dumps Cullen dropped his net in while bumping his fish. Lol

Yesterday while jigging the strawberry drift I swore I saw 2 big steelhead clear the water with giant leaps. Sure enough I get home to see chris Cinelli had caught 2 steelhead from right there earlier in the day. Nothing like that 70 deg water temp June steelhead run!

Had a great time out there.  John had me fishing out of my comfort zone by jigging, but it was fun!  Still cannot believe the smallie hit the weed catcher and yet stayed on.

After losing a net overboard once I filled the next nets' handle full of foam and now when I bump it into the water the handle sticks up in the air about a foot, and has saved me from a couple of oopsies..

Carl...was that the spray-foam?

Yes. I sprayed a few lines onto a board and when dry I sliced them into pieces and crammed them down the net handle with a broom handle until full.
