Keep in mind that I am always looking for images for our newsletter; fish, sunsets, sunrises, other anglers fishing, equipment, anything fishing related. I can use them all.  Large, unedited images are best. Thanks.

Thank you, Jay!

This site is sponsored by NMA Member Jay Nannen.

I am looking for a few more dedicated and reliable volunteers for the Angler Diary Study.

As many of you know, NMA members have been volunteering their time for this study since 1995. It is one of the longest (if not the longest) continuous musky studies of its kind in North America.

The 1995 to 2013 Report for the Buffalo Harbor and Upper Niagara River are available under the ADS tab (sub tab Analysis). There will also be an article in the July newsletter explaining what all these numbers mean, and what knowledge we can derive from them.

I've also attached the instructions for the study here: 2014 Angler Diary Study Instructions

If you would like to participate this year, or if you have any questions, please let me know.

Tony

Adam, John P., Cullen, John M., Riley H., Brett C., Capt. Larry., Dan S., Dan and Andy L., Tommy E., Tom R., Joe H., Ken S., the two Josh's, Mike C., Dave. M., Bob P., and any member who fishes the Niagara or Buffalo Harbor, we need you to participate in the Angler Diary Study.  We only had seven members record their trips last year which is really disappointing and really a bit sad.  Begging for fundraiser volunteers is tough and I only expect to get a few members to sign up when I do, but the ADS is easy.  C'mon gang, I'm talking about 1 minute of button punching every time go fishing.  Once again, one minute per trip of your time.  It's cake, and the ADS is really important.  Please reply to this message if you'll participate.  Thanks.

I've participated in years previous to 2013 iggy, got lazy last season.

Count me in again this season.

-Dave

Just explain what u need and u got it. I have detailed notes from last 3 seasons.
John

Thanks, John and Dave!

I don't know if Tony will want the previous three year's information, John, but he'll certainly want your input for 2014.

One note to Jojo's instruction: Don't double up trips.  If you fish with an ADS participant, only one ADS entry for the trip is required.  When I'm on Jojo's fly ride he records our data.  When he's on the Lund I do.

As Jojo mentioned, estimate sizes and record follows and Jersey Joe releases (the fish shook free, but you got a really good look at it) in the comments section.

Also, record girls who went fishing for muskies with you.  (Beat you to it, Carrie!)

John and Dave's participation gets us to nine.  How about we get six more?   Thanks.

Last year I listened to Kevin Kapuscinski give a presentation at the Southtowns Walleye Assoc. on, of all things, muskies.  If you've ever read or heard any DEC fish biologist's presentations, you'll see that it's heavily based on statistics.

A couple of things about statistics are that is has to be reliable data and "the more, the better."  That's why more sample sites are better but they're also careful about the data they get out of it.

At the beginning of the presentation, Kevin mentioned that the most reliable, the most accurate, the most concise and the most years back the data has been recorded has been provided by the Niagara Musky Association.
The kind of data the NMA had provided in the past is not available anywhere else.  It's invaluable and he gave a special thanks to the NMA for providing the data.

That snapped my head around, so thank you, Tony for doing this and let's all keep the data coming.  The data has led to a lot of good research & the more they know, the more the muskies will appreciate it.

John:

I'll mail a Diary Book to you for the 2014 season. Please read the instructions available on this site (and my initial post herein)carefully. Let me know if you have any questions.

Tony

Had good intentions last season, need to get a ballpoint pen that will work in late November-early December hahahaha

Dave- I put a mechanical pencil on board for that exact reason (much to Scott's dismay, he hates mechanical pencils.)

Dave:

I'll send you another diary book.

Tony

Carrie, I'm also a mechanical pencil lover, don't go anywhere without at least one Pentel hahaha

Great idea by the way.

Tony: Please do send me out antor one.

Tony,

If you haven't already mailed me another Angler Diary hold on to it, I found the one you sent me last year so I'll use that one.

Ignore my comment in Carrie's post about sending me another.

-Dave
