The Hunt for Big Rudd or River Candies

Have you ever heard that in order to catch a big musky you must learn to think like a big musky?  This is of course complete poppycock, but with this catching and thinking thing bouncing around our heads, the Mikes (Fortunate and Jankowiack) and I plied the waters around Grand Island in search of perch and world record rudd.  (Yes, I went perch fishing (the rudd were sort of accidental), which came as big of a surprise to me as it may to you.)  We didn’t encounter any of the pesky perch, but we did manage to catch some really big rudd.  These things are a swimming smorgasbord.  Of the thousands we saw, we somehow landed a few to about 18-inches (my arms are still tired).  Joining us in our quest to land world record rudd was The Hunt for Big Fish and River Monsters hosts, Larry Dahlberg and Jeremy Wade, which is of course completely false.  Larry landed a bunch of the red-finned devils to a whopping 25-inches on his unique bait of gummy worms and snot, while Jeremy only caught one, but he did talk about his one fish to anyone within earshot whether they wanted to listen or not.  I'm pretty sure rudd are not a physical threat to man, but Jeremy seemed a little skittish of them.  Mr. Toothy, start painting some silver and gold baits with red fins, please.  Damn, I am really starting to miss musky fishing…

I know Toothy has barely mastered the non-rotary phone, so our Web site is a bit beyond his grasp for at least a few years, but we need get Jimmy to make Toothy's that have a thin body (like a Grandma) and a wide profile to mimic these swimming musky treats.  I think a Lex Luthor, Jr., Jr. would fit the bill perfectly.

Cullen, you're doing a hell of job with your baits.  How about it?  Can you make us a rudd crankbait?  Maybe a few 10" to 16"?  Big gold or silver scales, red fins, large eyes, and a wobble that screams, "PLEASE KILL ME!!!"
