A couple of days ago, Nate Carr posted the link to the TV show that he did with Bill Hilts. Because of a quirk with .ning, you have to scroll down quite a ways to even know it was posted. Anyway, here's the link:

Whether you fly-fish or gear fish, there are some real good segments for both.  He talks about C&R (he does 100%), uses steel leaders, Beckmans, long-nosed pliers, hook cutters and, in the show's 2nd half, a discussion on handling, i.e., quickly playing, in-water releases, horizontal holding & staying with the fish after release. A ton of good info no matter how you fish.

Nice Presentation Nate. I am sorry I missed your presentation at the NMA meeting. I wondered about keeping the line from tangling with or getting caught on things in or on the boat. It seems like there would always be something to get it caught on so I guess you have to be constantly conscious of that. How can you go barefoot in November?

Do you know Rick Kistich? He also lives on Grand Island and has a book at the publisher right now on musky fly fishing that is scheduled to be out in January. One of Mike Small's fly patterns will be shown in the book. I have confirmed him to speak at our MI Chapter 69 meeting on Sept 17th. Just need to finalize. It is open to anyone who wants to attend.

Thanks Stephen! Windy days are the worst for fly line getting caught on stuff in the boat, that's why I carry a plastic storage bin and put a little water in the bottom of it. If it's windy, I strip my line into it and it helps considerably.

I go barefoot as long as I can tolerate the temps. When it gets real cold I'll put shoes/boots on and try to look before each cast to make sure I'm not standing on the line. Last November was pretty warm so I was able to stay barefoot many days that month.

I do know Rick Kustich (great guy), in fact, one of my flies and a few of my pictures will be in his book. I'm looking forward to seeing it when it's released!

Where are the MI meetings held? I'd like to attend if my schedule allows.

Steve...September 17th is a Saturday.  Is that date a typo?  Is it supposed to be the 19th?  If it's the 19th, I'll definitely be there.

Can't wait to listen to him at the meeting. t should be a good one.

Yes John, it is the 19th. The 17th is the date of an outing we are planning with Muskies Canada at Clayton which will also include a tour of the Thousand Island Biological Research Station on Governor Island. It is going to be a  busy few days.

Thanks Steve...I have my calendar marked for the 19th !  I'll be there so reserve a seat for me, please.  If I come early, can I order a roast beef before the meeting?

GUYS & GALS: You haven't had a mouth-melting roast beef on weck (with double horseradish) until you've had one from the Genesee Valley Moose Lodge in Henrietta.  Hands down, one of the best I've ever had. A real melter. In the words of the famous chef extraordinaire and all-around good guy, Jim "Toothy" Reynolds: SMACZNIE!!!

BTW, do you guys have a date for your Waneta/Lamoka Tourney yet?

Yes John, they will have the roast beef on weck. Waneta tournament is Sat., Nov 5th. Also the Mark Troy tourney on Waneta is Sat., Oct 1st. The water level has been very low there this summer. They lowered the levels to treat for Eurasian watermilfoil in Lamoka and because of the dry summer, the level never came back up. It was more than 2 ft low a couple weeks ago. So we were concerned about water levels to navigate the canal from the launch. Someone on LOU said today that yesterday it was ok going through the canal.
