Keep in mind that I am always looking for images for our newsletter; fish, sunsets, sunrises, other anglers fishing, equipment, anything fishing related. I can use them all.  Large, unedited images are best. Thanks.

I should have posted something earlier but most of you may already know. This Saturday is the 9th Annual Mark Troy tournament on Waneta Lake 7am til 3:30pm. It is always the first Saturday in October. It is put on by Jim Reynolds, Bob Saucke and Ed Cragg. Looks like Ed will be the only judge boat this year. Bob will be at the cottage bu he will not be able to goo on the water because he is recovering from a knee operation. Jim will probably be helping on Ed's boat. Go to this link on LOU for details.

It was a good time as usual. It was drizzling off and on most of the day which is only fitting since most of the days that Jim and Mark had off to fish were rain days because they both did construction. There were 43 participants and 11 fish were entered. There may have been a few smaller ones that were just released without entering. The top five fish were 43", 41.5", 41", 41" and 40". Joe Dolan took first place with a 43". Jeff Ranalletta took 2nd with a 41.5". Chad Lapa, one of Joe's 3 boat partners, took 3rd with a 41. Another one of Joe's boat partners, Chad's father I believe, got a 39". It was a good day for Joe's boat. Most of the fish were caught casting and most (if not all) were in less that 10 ft of water and many were in the 4 to 6 ft range. There were no fly fishers but I can't help to think that if there were, they could have competed well.

The get together after the tournament was a good time with awards, lure raffle, 50/50 raffle and a cookout. One of the participants, Brent Fingar, owner of Wise Guy Pizza in Hammondsport donated the meat for the cookout.

Captain Ed Cragg served as the only judge boat. During the course of the tournament, he was posting pictures and updates on facebook. He also made up a big batch of chille and served it on the water. Back at the awards ceremony, he printed and framed the pics of the three winning fish, as usual, for the winners and took the group picture.

I didn't really know Mark very well when he was alive but I feel I know him a lot better now from talking to his friends, especially every year at this tournament. I would be proud to call Mark a good friend.

As I was writing this Joe got some of the pics from Ed and posted then HERE on LOU.

Congratulations, Joe! I saw the 43" on LOU; nice, fat, fish. I didn't know the winner of the Treu posed with Mark's Top 5 hat. That is a very cool tradition. Jimmy, Bob and Ed, way to go again! You always do Mark proud.

Jim just started the hat thing this year.

Thanks, Scott.  The tournament was an absolute blast!  We had a great time and really do appreciate everything that Jim, Ed, and Bob do to make this tourney such a huge success every year.

I ended up sleeping over Friday and Saturday evening at the cottage used for the tournament headquarters.  Toothy shared many great stories about Mark.  I never got a chance to meet him, but really wish I had...seemed like a very cool guy!  The addition of having the winner wear his hat for a picture is a real honor.

Joe...a good looking & fabulous fish you got.  A big CONGRATULATIONS to you.  We're staying in Watkins Glen right now & have been hitting the wineries & breweries here & H-Port since Monday.  Well, actually, I've been hitting them.  She goes along for the ride.

I told her that next year is a definite for me at Waneta.  I've already got the 1st Sat booked for myself.  We'll have to sample the grapes juice & barley another time.

Congrats to everyone & thanks for putting it together, guys.  Next year I'll be there with the fly rod.
