Keep in mind that I am always looking for images for our newsletter; fish, sunsets, sunrises, other anglers fishing, equipment, anything fishing related. I can use them all.  Large, unedited images are best. Thanks.

How to Decompose, or is it Decompress?

I don't follow celebrities, movie stars or the thousands of other people trying to make a living out of selling themselves, but I came across this article on aol.

I think most of us have been there.

Mono Collection

Just a reminder, if you have any monofilament from any of the collection bins or even if you have any old mono from re-spooling your reels, please bring it to the meeting on Tuesday, Oct 5th. Louis Long will be there to collect any mono brought in & we will make sure it gets to the BN Waterkeepers.

Thanks for the work & collecting. Unfortunately, if you have any braided line from personal use, that's NOT recyclable. We do find it in the collection bins and the BNW has to…

Mono Collection Bins

Whenever/wherever we have our next face-to-face meeting please bring in any monofilament you've collected from your bin(s). i'll be at the next meeting.

Take note of the round-trip mileage & about the number of minutes you spent traveling, walking & emptying the bin & jot it down somewhere. Time & mileage are considered one of the matching funds. Measure it once & it'll be the same from month to month.

If you're re-spooling any reels this year, next year or…

Monofilament Collection BIns

For a project that took the last year off, it got off to a good start. Out of the 12 locations that they're installed, only one isn't assigned (so far). That's the one at the bottom of Devil's Hole, 400 steps going down, 4,000 coming up. The BNW is emptying that for now but it might move to the top. Additionally, if we see or hear of any suggestions, we're open to all of them.

Below is a video of emptying a bin. It's for guidance only & nothing says it has to be done that way. Use…

If you planned on using the launch at SBH for the musky opener, forget about it. NYS Office of Parks & Recreation will close the launch from dusk on Thursday the 17th & reopen Sunday the 20th after 4:00 p.m.

Any questions about SBH contact A. Berti at the number listed at the top of the release.

I have no idea if the waterway at Bflo Harbor or the Upper Niagara will even be open to boaters. Those bodies of water aren't part of the NYS Parks system.…

Monofilament Bin Collection

The BN Waterkeepers have been emptying the mono collection bins that we built & have collected over 2 lbs of mono. It doesn't seem like a lot but 2# really is.

We'd like to get back on track but it might take a couple of months to get it running smoothly. Below is a pic of the sites in which the bins are installed.

Pick a site or 2…

Casting Reels

Need some input on a good casting reel(target fish here are shorter). Unfortunately, I live south of you guys & am going to have to fish smaller rivers in NC where trolling is not an option. I gotta throw!! I’ll find the rod...I think, casting angler replies would be much appreciated.

Lake Erie And Climate Change

This article talks about big winds stirring up Lake Erie and affecting the Western Basin, causing oxygen and phosphorus problems but I wonder about the eastern end and the Niagara River when the big SE winds happen.

Catch and Release Report

I’ve admittedly fallen of the wagon when it comes to reporting. Doing the tagging study was initially exciting years ago, but I found I dreaded recording the data after a catch. Just wanted to get right back at it.

I didn’t report a single release this year, and it was one of my best years. 49.5 jigging, 48 jigging, a 48 casting. Would have loved a hat; but it taught me a valuable lesson.

My “new season,” resolution is to contribute to the goldmine of data that is held by Mr.…

Artpark Shore Musky

A buddy of mine texted me to shore fish for steelhead today at Artpark.  Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get out of work early, but I was leaving the office he texted me again....

Right before sunset, he thought he was snagged but started to feel violent head shakes.  Turns out it was a musky! The crazy thing is he was using a spey rod and a fly.  Since he was by himself, he didn't get a measurement. But it still was a once in a lifetime occurrence.…
