Keep in mind that I am always looking for images for our newsletter; fish, sunsets, sunrises, other anglers fishing, equipment, anything fishing related. I can use them all.  Large, unedited images are best. Thanks.

Ground Hog Day

When the ground hog saw its shadow & predicted six more weeks of winter, did it mean it would be an early spring or a late spring? It's been so cold for so long I can't tell anymore

Receiver Retrieval in the Harbor

Just got word from Justin of the DEC that they are still on schedule to take our telemetry receivers out of the Harbor on Nov. 30th. You can't ask for a better date than that!

The receivers are (1) @ Union Ship Canal, (1) @ City Ship Canal, (1) @ Wilkeson Pointe and (3) along the inside edge of the breakwall from the South to the Middle Gap. If you see them out there (one piece orange exposure suits), give them a wave (if you're not busy netting) & give them…

Nicholl's Marine Receiver

Jonah Withers (USFWS) pulled the receiver that was at the head of the Niagara (off Nicholl's) today & dropped it off at the DEC's office so they could do their magic.

He said he didn't have much trouble retrieving it. Look for a short article in the Nov newsletter on the schedule.

Corps of Engineers Presentation oof Unity Island

Just got word from the ACE that they are still "on" to present their proposals on their Unity Island project. Instead of being a vast, flat wasteland, the plan calls for adding dropoffs, stumps, vegetation & even a 50' opening into the Niagara River so fish can move in & out.

YOY Seining

Talked with some DEC biologists yesterday and most of the sites were already sampled. The Strawberry Island lagoon is the only one left.

Of all the sites, only one YOY musky was seined and that was at the East River Marsh. It was somewhere in the mid to upper 40 millimeters long (~1-3/4"). They mentioned that the water levels were quite high & there were a few sites that couldn't be sampled because they couldn't get far enough out into the weeds to seine.

Safety First!

Had a tough day on Sunday. Still managed one little 36in fish, and tagged him too!

Got a nice video of the catch, and my misfortune. I've gotten pretty comfortable handling Musky, and always focus on quick release. Unfortunately if one become complacent, accidents happen.

As I went to take the hook out, Musky spun in the net, wrapped up my hand and pierced my knuckle with the stinger hook. Happened in a split second, and I had to pull the hook out of my knuckle quick, as the…

Waterspout

Saw this waterspout off the Waverly Shoals/Ft Erie area yesterday as it was headed toward Buffalo. You have to look hard but go straight down from the funnel & you'll see a fuzzy, washed-out area on the shore at the waterline. That was the water boiling up.

Taken from the railing at Hoak's. Then the rain came (hard!)…
