Keep in mind that I am always looking for images for our newsletter; fish, sunsets, sunrises, other anglers fishing, equipment, anything fishing related. I can use them all.  Large, unedited images are best. Thanks.

Old Homes Days Fishing Derby

Once again we are running the Old Homes Days Kids’ Fishing Derby.  The event takes place on Saturday, July 20 at Island Park (behind the Town Hall on Main St.) in the Village of Williamsville from 9AM to noon.

The derby is for children up to the age of 16 and is open to the public.

We need volunteers to help remove hooks, tie knots, sort tangles, measure and record fish and answer silly questions posed by really nervous parents.  Best of all, you’ll be encouraging the kids to keep on fishing and thank the adults for taking the time on a beautiful Saturday, when there are a hundred other things to do, to give the young anglers something that will last them the rest of their lives.

The derby is always a good time and the kids love it.  One of the managers at the Orvis Shop at Eastern Hills used to fish the derby when he was a kid. You might never know what influence you’ve given the child.

As always, our club has purchased prizes for the top 10, some Tim Horton’s gift cards to raffle to the parents and some worms for those who need them.  This year we even have a couple of combo rods just in case someone comes without any equipment. Without a doubt you’ll be showing some kids and their parents how to thread a worm on a hook. Everyone in the contest walks away with a lure.

If you plan on attending, just show up a little before 9 a.m.

If you think you won’t know what to do, there are a few of us who have done it the last few. You won’t be stranded.

Wear something with NMA on it and bring a pair of needle nosed pliers or hemostats.

Thanks.

Thanks, Tony! I got a couple doz worms for the kids. There are always a few who need them.

Also, with all the heat warnings that are going out, we'll tell the parents that we'll assess the heat about 10:45 & decide if we should call it quits at 11:00. If needed we can assess again for an 11:30 wrap-up. I don't want any kids (or grandparents) to have any problems because of the heat & humidity. Thx. See you in the a.m.!
